The Hmar People

The people of the Hmar tribe of northeast India were once fierce headhunters, infamous for their vicious slayings. But in 1910, Welsh missionary Watkin Roberts sent the Gospel of John to a Hmar chief.

The chief invited Roberts to come and explain the Scriptures. He went despite a ban by the British Colonial rulers, and five young tribesmen chose to follow Jesus.

The converts grew in faith and became leaders of a new, energetic church. Within two generations, the entire Hmar tribe was evangelized. Headhunting stopped and "heart-hunting" began. Read More

One Step Higher

  " Well, i don't know much to write but just wanted to add few lines.Firstly, i appreciate friends requesting me to make sketches out of their pictures. And thanks to all of you guys that as you can see today, i'm achieving something different unlike my previous try-outs. And as for those whose potraits i haven't, i do remember and it will be done soon :D As you look the above image, it is more realistic as i've started to excel in depths ( but just a scratch of it). 
  Secondly, Phew!, it took me the whole night (my night usually starts at 11/12, so no big deal), completed by 8 in the morning, which will not be the issue soon when i improve :D. For now il stick to it, saying" What can be more pleasing than doing whats fun :D?. As usual i uses round hard and soft brush, implemented with my bamboo tablet on Photoshop."

Thangruolin, Lungruolin. Hmar takin awleh!

Hmar is the name of one of the numerous Mizo/Kuki/Chin tribes of India, spread over a large area in the northeast. The Hmars belong to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo group of tribes, and are recognized as Scheduled Tribe under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution of India. They are a small community of less than 100,000 in Assam, although there are more in Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. (source-wiki).

Everything's gona be Okay !

Firstly, I would like to introduce the fonts i used in this art.
Signarita Zhai, Leftheria, Construthinvian, Dense, Vodka

And secondly into the sketching. The textures appearing here are obtained by applying filters as follow:

Inner t-shirt- FG -sponge

Top shirt- FG-rough pastel

Pants- FG-Film grain

Skin- add noise(very small amount)

Today in my post, I've attached the .psd file (download) in case it might be useful to anyone in any possible way.Here, you will be able to see the layers i worked on. 

The steps used in this project is as usual, firstly making an outline sketch from reference if available, round brush -hard and soft, dragging the opacity and flow when necessary, multiple layers for each and so on.

In the art is a composition of few lines dedicated to whoever feel lost, beaten, weak and down. It goes like this,

The world goes on, Time goes by, People come and go, Good days versus bad days. In the end nothing really matter. The only thing that matter, How you deal with what matters. EVERYTHING'S GONA BE ALRIGHT.Why the earth goes round and round ?, Trying hard to kick your butt, don't let it happen. HAVE FAITH.

I'm grateful i can make this work and post it though i'm quite unwell.It is the love of art which is driving me around i believe. And also Riryn, tq for the photo that i could work on.

I might depart for i do not know,

As for the moment blurred and indistinct, still you are.

Fervently and twitchy my life is spinning as such.

Yet i know you be the best gift of life,

You’d be the sweetest woman I know.

A loving mama, for our adoring children to be.

A fool i would be not to be thankful,

For each day of those lives i look upon.

Sometimes i imagine knowing you, maybe we’ve met i ought to recall.

But some are the times you are more unfamiliar to me.

I will love you so dearly, it’s true and i will be loved i dream.

Until that moment i will keep on dreaming,

Hoping to get a hold of you, on that very fine day i believe exist.

Till then my valentine, i wish you the best of your life.

Exposing Color

I am here to update my latest digital painting work out. Procedure remains as described in the previous blog( see here) and yes,Photoshop is still where we do the thing.
Practice make you more precise and enable you reaching perfection closer and closer. If you have the passion dont let it slip away. Do Practice a lot. :Peace:

Digital Painting Me Gusta

On my journey as a Graphic Designer i have taken keen interest in Digital Painting and start walking the path that seems worthy. Not so new or uncommon for many it might be, but to me it is and i am having so much fun at the same time lots of hard work and toiling on the implementation part. Here i am to highlight how i started. And beforehand i would like to say it is real basic.

Here,

1. I uses existing images as reference.

2. I use two brushes ( Hard and soft round brushes).

3. Blending mode : For textures related art(eg. Necklace).

4. Color adjustment : To see variation and to choose my taste in output.

5. A pen tablet.

6. Adobe Photoshop.

First, trace out the outlines of the image with a brush on a new layer.  Make a new layer below the trace you made and start brushing the skin(start from the base skin). By picking different colors from the reference and by brushing out on a new layer( placed on top) will make it easy all the way. Go on brushing the skin and try not moving out of the outline sketches you made. Now we'll add mid tones for the skin (soft round brush will work out). Try switching the opacity and fill of the brushes to have a desirable look. Next, we’ll add highlight and shades( define a well light source). In my case, since i used an already existing image with defined light source, it is easy to decide by looking at the reference and implementing. Next up is working on the facial, eyes, nose lips. Check out tutorials and remember practice is all that matters. And so on, keep on working with the clothing with lighting and shading on them. Lets start concentrating on the hair, for this roughly brush out with a soft round brush a base color. And next mid tones with hard corner brush( make the brush small, the smaller the better and realistic). Some highlights at last. Now that your done, you might want to recheck the out lines you've created at first step and maybe rub out,or re sketch some(to make it look better). The later stage for this is changing the colors by changing vibrance, saturation,  contrast, etc., which you can so with separate layers or as one layer which you can do by merging layers.  Keep on looking for the right adjustment until you’re satisfied.
